Ladies of Philoptochos (Ladies Auxiliary) of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral

The Philoptochos (Ladies Auxiliary) of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral is a vital an integral part of our Church.

The history of the Philoptochos dates back to the early 1930s when the late Ecumenical Patriarch, Athenagoras I established this vital organization and is present in all Greek Orthodox churches in Canada.

The Ladies of the Philoptochos of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral supports many charities and those that are less fortunate. Some of the functions and activities of the Philotpcohos include the following:

Family Support...

Philoptochos supports families in need of financial aid. Special food packages are prepared and distributed during the Christmas and Easter Holidays.

Hospital Visitations...

The Philoptochos Ladies regularly visit the hospitals across the country and provide our sick with material and moral support.

Support for the Elderly...

Philoptochos supports all Institutions for our seniors.

Medical Assistance...

The Ladies of the Philoptochos supports many hospitals (including Children’s hospital) and other foundations and organizations. They also provide financial support to our sick in need.

Greek and Sunday Schools...

Philoptochos supports the needs of our Greek and Sunday Schools as well as any program or event to promote and preserve our Greek language.

In support of our Greek Culture...

Philoptochos plays a leading part in all our cultural functions and helps to preserve and promote our Greek culture.

Sending help...

Philoptochos sends food, clothing and medical supplies to people who are suffering from war, our patriots who are suffering from earthquakes, natural disasters, etc., as well as financial aid.

The Ladies of the Philoptochos Board consists of 17 members which are elected every two years. Membership to the Ladies of the Philotpcohos is open to all our parishioners.
