ENOSIS HELLENIC DANCE GROUPS

The  dance groups under the umbrella name of Enosis is an homage to the original dance group that represented the Hellenic Community of Vancouver in the early to mid 1970s. After starting a “soft launch” in March 2016, the feedback has been very positive and we look forward to starting in the fall with a dance program that will teach our children not just to dance but to learn about the different types of dances, where they come from and have fun!

We are pleased to announce that Dimitrios Kontogiannis, ofZephyros Hellenic Dance Society, will be teaching dance this year. Dimitrios has been researching and teaching traditional Greek dance for over 30 years and is deeply passionate about preserving Greece’s rich heritage of traditional folk dance.  The dance groups will not only learn the traditional dances,  but will be performing at Community events and functions as well as local Food Festivals and Greek Day!

Practice days and times are as follows:

Our youngest group is the “The Filarakia” and is for children in Grade 1 to Grade 6.  This group will be split into Filarakia Junior and Filarakia Intermedaite. They will practice on Sundays, beginning September 16th,  from 12:15-1pm and 1:15-2:15pm, respectively,  in the Church atrium.

Our teen group consists of youth in Grades 7 to 11 and is called “H Parea”.  They will begin practice on Wednesday, September 12th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Church atrium.

Our young adult group, ENOSIS, is for those in Grade 12 to 25 years old and they will begin practice on Wednesday, September 12th from 8-9:30pm in the Church atrium.

Registration will begin on Saturday, July 29th.  The program runs until end of June, with free tuition for members, and a $75 fee for non-members. A $100 volunteer deposit is required, to be reimbursed after volunteering for two shifts at the Greek Food Festival in Spring 2019.

All registrations are done through our online registration system – please see link below. All registrations must be completed before October 1st to have successfully joined the program.
