The Hellenic Community of Vancouver offers regular classes in traditional Greek dance, for all ages and levels! Please see below for more details & registration info.
Dance students will learn dances from various regions of Greece, focussing on the steps and style that are characteristic to each area. This will give students a broad knowledge of the longstanding folk dance traditions in Greece, which continue to be practiced today.
Our dance instructor, Dimitrios Kontogiannis, has been researching and teaching traditional Greek dance for over 40 years, and is committed to preserving Greece’s rich dance heritage. He has been a guest teacher at seminars in Canada and the U.S., and frequently judges at the FDF dance competition.
He hopes to encourage students to recognize the value of dancing socially, which has been an integral part of our shared culture for centuries. Some of the community’s dance groups also do presentations at community events and festivals.
Classes are ongoing, and students are welcome to join anytime throughout the year! Newcomers can try out their first class for free.
